Soto Building
2001 North Soto Street, Los Angeles, California
The newest vanguard in the expansion of the USC Health Sciences Campus, this 120,000 square-foot facility is home to the Keck School of Medicine’s Department of Preventive Medicine, as well as various administrative offices.
The three-story building houses offices, laboratories, classrooms, a student and faculty fitness center and a café. In addition to letting in a lot of natural light, a floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall on the back of building provides open views of a half-acre, multi-purpose garden courtyard. The courtyard opens up to provide visual contact with the rest of the Health Sciences Campus and an expansive view of downtown Los Angeles.

The Soto Building is designed to promote a healthy and productive workplace for employees and students.
The oval shaped basketball area is designed to be easily reconfigured to accommodate sports or other events. It has built-in terraced, stadium seating for gatherings or presentations. The remainder of the outdoor open space is lushly landscaped, inviting individuals to dine, study, relax or exercise.

Utilizing sustainable principles, the building skin has an approximate ratio of 60% glass to 40% solid. This maximizes daylight and views to all interior spaces, and makes use of high performance Low-e coated glass to maximize energy performance of the building enclosure.
