Awards and Honors

The Health Sciences Public Relations and Marketing team is responsible for award-winning advertising campaigns, print marketing materials, publications, video productions and other projects supporting the Keck School of Medicine and USC clinical activities, including The Doctors of USC, Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Cancer Hospital. Below are some of the awards and honors we have received over the past few years.

 

 

Awards Received in Fiscal Year 2011

2011 International Gold Award from the Magnum Opus Awards contest for Best Medical Publication for USC Norris Cancer Report, produced in 2010.

2011 International Bronze Award from the Magnum Opus Awards contest for Best Cover for The Weekly, produced in 2010.

2011 International Honorable Mention Award from the Magnum Opus Awards contest for Best School/University Publication for Keck Medicine, produced in 2010.

2011 National Gold Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report in the Special Video Production category for the “Beyond the Fight” video produced by c.2K Communications for the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center gala. The video introduces Drs. Heinz Lenz and Michael Kahn, co-directors of the new USC Center for Molecular Pathways and Drug Discoveries, and Annette Cook, one of Dr. Lenz's patients. Produced in Fall 2010.

2011 International Silver Award of Distinction from the Communicator Awards in Film/Video for Fund Raising for the “Beyond the Fight” video produced by c.2K Communications for the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center gala. The video introduces Drs. Heinz Lenz and Michael Kahn, co-directors of the new USC Center for Molecular Pathways and Drug Discoveries, and Annette Cook, one of Dr. Lenz's patients. Produced in Fall 2010.

2011 National Gold Award from the Aster Awards in Special Video Production for Foundation/Fundraising for the “Beyond the Fight” video produced by c.2K Communications for the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center gala. 2011 International Silver Award from the Telly Awards Competition in Online Video—Campaign-Promotional/Branding for the “University Hospital and the Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center” videos produced by Vox Pop Films for the hospitals’ bariatrics, prostate and cardiovascular service lines campaign. Produced in 2010.

2011 International Silver Award from the Telly Awards Competition in Online Video—Education for the “Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign” video produced by Vox Pop Films for the USC Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign. Produced in 2010.

2011 International Silver Award from the Telly Awards Competition in Online Video—Education for the Eli and Edythe Broad CIRM Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at USC video produced by Vox Pop Films for the dedication of the new building. Produced in 2010.

2010 International Silver Award from the Magnum Opus Awards contest for Most Improved Editorial for USC Norris Cancer Report, launched in 2009.



2010 International Bronze Award from the Magnum Opus Awards contest for Best School/University Publication for Keck Medicine, produced in 2009.



2010 International Honorable Mention Award from the Magnum Opus Awards contest for Best Use of Photography - Single Feature for "HSC drills to be the master of any disaster," The Weekly, published in 2009.



2010 International Honorable Mention Award from the Magnum Opus Awards contest for Most Improved Design for The Weekly, produced in 2009.



2010 National Silver Award from the Aster Awards, a national medical marketing awards program recognizing excellence in health care marketing and advertising, for the USC Hospitals Brand Campaign, “Fight On.” Launched January 2010.

2010 National Gold Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report in the Magazine Advertising/Series category for last year’s Los Angeles Dodgers program ads.  The two USC University Hospital ads featured a juxtaposition of baseballs with a stethoscope and baseball bats with an otoscope.  The copy message reads, “Proud to be the official hospital of the Dodgers.” Produced in 2009.

                           

2010 National Best of Show Award for outstanding creativity from the Healthcare Marketing Report for the two-ad series co-branding the hospital with the Dodgers (one of 16 Best of Show entries). Produced in 2009.

2010 National Gold Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report in the Employee Communications Program category for the hospital acquisition celebration materials featuring the Tommy Trojan “head” collage created with nearly 400 employee headshots.  The multi-part entry featured a newspaper ad announcing the hospital acquisition by USC, a lobby display banner and a commemorative poster published in The Weekly. Produced in 2009.



2010 National Gold Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report in the Special Video Production category for the USC Institute of Urology video featuring interviews with Dr. Inderbir Gill and actress Shirley MacLaine. Produced in 2009 for posting on the Institute’s web site.

2010 National Silver Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report in the Professional Recruitment Advertising category for the full-page nurse recruitment ad appearing in Trojan Family Magazine.  The ad says the USC hospitals are “looking for nurses who work like Trojans.” Produced in 2009.



2010 National Merit Award from the Service Industry Advertising Awards for External Publication—Magazine for Keck Medicine. Produced in 2009.

2010 Regional Gold Award from the American Marketing Association (Nebraska) Pinnacle Awards for the Keck School of Medicine of USC, Dean’s Council on Health Reform Website. Launched in 2009.

2010 International Award of Excellence from the Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) competition for the One to Two Person—Produced Newsletters for Keck/USC Dean’s Report. Produced in 2009.

2010 International Award of Excellence from the Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) competition for the Intranet Sites category for the Dean’s Council on Health Reform Web Site. Launched in 2009.

2010 National Award of Excellence from the Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) competition for the Magazines & Journals – Print category for Keck Medicine, produced in 2009.

2010 International Award of Excellence from the Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) competition for the Most Improved Magazines & Journals category for USC Norris Cancer Report. Produced in 2009.

2010 International Award of Excellence from the Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) competition for the Most Improved Magapapers and Newspapers category for The Weekly – October 23, 2009.

2009 Regional Gold Medal Award of Excellence from the Council on the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District VII for Internal Audience Periodicals for The Weekly. Produced in 2008 and awarded November 2009 (FY10).

2009 National Gold Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report for External Publication, Keck Medicine (for the inaugural issue), published Summer 2008.

2009 National Gold Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report for Total Advertising Campaign, Doctors of USC (featuring USC football Coach Pete Carroll), produced July 2008.

2009 National Gold Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report for Best Athletic Venue Advertisement (for the animated Doctors of USC ad appearing at the scorer’s table during home basketball games at the Galen Center), produced 2008.

2009 National Silver Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report for Special Video Production, Doctors of USC (Doctors of USC website videos), launched July 2008.

2009 National Bronze Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report for Single Newspaper Ad (Norris lung cancer print ad), produced in 2008.

2009 International Silver Award from the Council on the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for Individual Fundraising Publications: Flyers, Pamphlets, and Brochures for the collateral brochure produced for the Eli and Edythe Broad CIRM Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research at USC, produced in 2008.

2009 National Gold Award from Admissions Marketing Report for External Publication, Keck Medicine magazine, published in 2008.

2009 National Award of Distinction from American Graphic Design and Advertising for Publication Design for Keck Medicine, produced in 2008.

2009 International first place winner for the E2E Communication Awards for Best Employee Publication-Newspaper, HSC Weekly, for issues published from May 2008 to April 2009.

2008 National Silver Award from the Healthcare Marketing Report for Total Advertising Campaign (w/TV), Doctors of USC, produced in 2007.

2008 National Gold Award from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, for Web Design, Doctors of USC website, produced in 2007.

2008 National W3 Silver Award from the International Academy of Visual Arts for the new Doctors of USC website, launched 2008.

2006 National Silver Award from Healthcare Marketing Report for Magazine Advertising/Single Ad (print ad showcasing the USC Physicians who appeared in the 2005 listing of “The Best Doctors in America”).

2006 National Silver Award from Healthcare Marketing Report for Radio Advertising/ Single Spot (USC UH radio spot promoting minimally invasive heart surgery), produced/aired in 2005.

2006 National Bronze Award from Healthcare Marketing Report for Radio Advertising/Series (for USC UH, Norris & HSC PR + Marketing for collaboration on a series of radio spots promoting the physicians and medical services @ USC), produced/aired in 2005.

2006 Regional Silver Advocate Award from the Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Association of Southern California in the Media Relations category (for news coverage of cancer rates in Hispanics), January 2006.
