All of our 18 clinical departments provide university-level patient care while also directing clinical studies and trials.
Our Clinical Departments
The Department of Anesthesiology provides state of the art care for patients undergoing all types of surgical procedures. Because the discipline has become so subspecialized, faculty is available in areas such as cardiac anesthesia, neuroanesthesia, pain management, and organ transplantation.
The Department of Dermatology serves as a regional and international leader in providing comprehensive dermatologic care and serves as a tertiary and quaternary referral center for Central and Southern California and the Southwest United States. Ranking 7th in the nation in NIH research funding, USC Dermatology has played a major role in the development of the field. Over 60,000 patients are seen annually at our affiliate hospitals and clinics, including: Keck Medical Center, Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, LAC+USC Medical Center, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System, and White Memorial Hospital. The department hosts a fully accredited ACGME residency program with 10 residents.
The Department of Emergency Medicine at LAC+USC Medical Center provides world-class emergency, trauma and medical services to the County’s 10 million residents. It is the County’s largest emergency department, the backbone of the County’s safety net for emergency care, and the County’s “Flagship” trauma center providing more than 28 percent of all trauma care in Los Angeles County.
The primary objective of the Department of Family Medicine is the education of medical students, physician assistants, residents, fellows, faculty and community physicians in the principles of family medicine. The department seeks to discover new knowledge that will contribute to the processes and outcomes of health care.
Welcome to the Department of Medicine. As the largest department of USC, we have made significant contributions to the University’s expansion, and hope to continue our success through consistent implementation of our tripartite mission focusing on research, clinical care and educational programs.
The mission of the Department of Neurology at the Keck School of Medicine is “to reduce the burden of neurological disorders on humankind through research, education and patient care.”
The department supports 47 faculty including both MDs, MD/PhDs, and PhDs, 16 residents, 7 fellows including 3 accredited fellowship programs and over 100 research technicians, research and clinical nurses and other support staff.
The Department of Neurological Surgery currently has 15 full-time faculty. The teaching faculty are dedicated to the concept of subspecialty expertise. Each of the faculty has one or more areas of special clinical interest that serve as a resource for secondary and tertiary neurological care as well as role models for the future careers of our neurosurgical trainees.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is a leading institution in all aspects of women’s health with nationally recognized programs in obstetrics and gynecology including high risk pregnancy, reproduction genetics, gynecology, breast disease, infertility, contraception and cancer. Faculty members also have expertise in subspecialty areas such as gynecologic urology, infectious diseases and genetics.
The USC Department of Ophthalmology and The Vision Center at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles continue to be ranked among the top 15 ophthalmology programs in the country by both U.S. News & World Report and Ophthalmology Times. The program’s leading-edge research has resulted in 22 patents.
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at USC is one of the most comprehensive orthopaedic programs in the United States, offering a multidisciplinary approach for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of orthopaedic disorders. The physicians provide care in a variety of medical specialties, such as sports medicine injuries, which includes treating USC athletes. As faculty at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, our physicians engage in medical research benefiting patients while they educate and mentor future generations of orthopaedic specialists.
The USC Tina and Rick Caruso Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery of the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is dedicated to providing an excellence in care that reflects our passion for our work and our specialty’s advances. We provide state of the art care for a wide range of disorders affecting the head and neck. Whether your concern relates to the development of an infection or a tumor, a congenital problem, or problems with speaking or hearing, a facial cosmetic deformity, or lingering symptoms related to imbalance or nasal and sinus congestion, the physicians and staff of our department seek a common goal: to allow you to take the remarkable possibilities of our specialized care to their fullest potential.
The Department of Pathology is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The department provides diagnostic laboratory services for the LAC+USC Medical Center, Keck Hospital of USC, Norris Cancer Hospital and the USC Clinical Laboratory Group.
The Department of Pediatrics is composed of 220 faculty members at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), 70 faculty members at Women’s and Children’s Hospital at Los Angeles County Hospital (LAC+USC) and four faculty members at the College Health facility on University Park Campus. These faculty and their programs provide a broad range of clinical, educational, and research programs to advance child health care and academic pediatrics.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences integrates the best of science, medicine, education and psychology and behavioral health. The department has expanded greatly in recent years in terms of the research mission, collaborating with local, national and international partners. It is an international research leader in genomic psychiatry, translational research, health services research and the neurosciences.
The Department of Radiation Oncology is committed to serving our patients with compassion and sensitivity. We are also dedicated to ensuring that our patients are as comfortable as possible throughout their treatment. Our goal is to empathetically communicate and respond to the emotional needs and concerns of patients and their families while providing state-of-the-art radiation therapy using the newest and most advanced technologies available.
The Department of Radiology of the Keck School of Medicine of USC provides imaging services at three major institutions (LAC+USC Medical Center, Keck Hospital of USC and USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center) and operates state-of-the-art outpatient imaging centers at HC2 (General Imaging) and HC1 (PET Center).
The Department of Surgery is dedicated to providing quality patient care and advanced educational programs, and to conducting innovative research that will advance the future of surgical practice. The department is comprised of 10 divisions and offers a prominent surgical residency program.
The USC Department of Urology (Catherine and Joseph Aresty Department of Urology) at the Keck School of Medicine comprises the USC Institute of Urology. The institute provides a complete range of subspecialties, which deliver comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for the entire range of urologic disorders. The USC Institute of Urology is committed to providing exceptional and innovative patient care and performing research to advance the field.
