The USC Primary Care Physician Assistant Program welcomes Kevin Lohenry, PhD, PA-C, as its new Program Director and Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine.  Dr. Lohenry is currently President of the Physician Assistant Education Association, the national organization for physician assistant educators, and has served almost five years on their board of directors.

Dr. Lohenry, originally from Wheaton, IL, served in the United States Navy prior to becoming a physician assistant.  After graduation he practiced for nine years as a PA in internal medicine in Illinois while working part-time as an instructor in 1997. He began his full-time career in education by accepting an appointment as Assistant Professor and Associate Program Director in 2003 at the Midwestern University Physician Assistant Program in Downers Grove, Illinois. Two years later, he accepted a position as Associate Professor and Program Director at Midwestern University’s Glendale, Arizona campus.  Under his leadership, the PA program faculty produced over 100 peer-reviewed publications and presentations, and the program received five years of continuing accreditation.

Keck School of Medicine initiated a nationwide search for a new program director nine months ago and considered many candidates before selecting Dr. Lohenry. During that time, Anne Walsh, PA-C, MMSc served as the Interim Program Director, spending countless hours and extraordinary effort preparing us for re-accreditation and promoting our growth as a program. Ms. Walsh will continue on our faculty team and help facilitate the transition in leadership.

The USC Primary Care Physician Assistant Program would like to enthusiastically welcome Dr. Lohenry to our team and we look forward to continued success under his leadership.
