Department of Neurology

Office of Adminstration

The mission of the Department of Neurology at the Keck School of Medicine is "to reduce the burden of neurological disorders on humankind through research, education and patient care."

The Department supports 47 faculty including both MDs, MD/PhDs, and PhDs, 16 residents, 7 fellows including 3 accredited fellowship programs and over 100 research technicians, research and clinical nurses and other support staff.

Clinical medicine has its foundation in the insights provided by basic science studies of normal and abnormal organ, cell and molecular structures and functions.  In turn, the power of basic science to successfully support clinical medicine is highly dependent upon input from clinical observations and experience.  Partnerships between basic and clinical scientists are the most effective means of translating fundamental insights into more effective tools for the diagnosis, management, treatment, and eventual cures, for neurological disease.  In the Department of Neurology, faculty members are actively engaged in individual investigator-initiated research projects, as well as the development of collaborative, interdisciplinary partnerships between basic and clinical scientists in multiple departments and schools at USC.  Our research efforts reflect the diversity and complexity of the neurological diseases that afflict our patient population, such as Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and neuromuscular diseases such as inclusion body myositis and myasthenia gravis.
