Department of Preventive Medicine
Since its founding in 1977, the Department of Preventive Medicine has evolved continuously; it now has 88 faculty carrying out a wide range of research and offering world-class educational programs. The greatest strengths of the department are its outstanding faculty and enormous base of cutting-edge, transdisciplinary and population-oriented research, which is consistently ranked number one in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding among comparable medical school departments.
This department's focus is broad and encompassing, reflecting the scope of population health and preventive medicine. While its activities and educational mission intersect with interests of faculty in other departments and schools within the University, the department is special for its transdisciplinarity and resulting broad reach into the School of Medicine and the University.
