Cancer Surveillance Program
The Los Angeles County Cancer Surveillance Program (CSP) is the population-based cancer registry for Los Angeles County. Since 1972, the CSP has routinely collected and analyzed information on all new cancer diagnoses made among residents of the County. The CSP is a member of the statewide population-based cancer surveillance system, the California Cancer Registry (CCR). It is also part of the National Cancer Institute-funded Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results SEER program. The CSP is administered by the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine and the USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. With the large and diverse population of Los Angeles County, the CSP has served as a resource for many epidemiological studies of cancer in Los Angeles County.

This report is in response to concerns expressed by parents regarding an alleged excess of different types of cancers among alumni of Beverly Hills High School who attended during the period 1975-1997.
NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
For the past five years of the program’s existence, the CSP has achieved the NAACCR Gold Standard.
In 1997, NAACCR instituted a program that annually reviewed member registries for their ability to produce complete, accurate, and timely data. The registry certification program then recognizes those registries meeting the highest standards of data quality with Gold or Silver recognition certificates for each data year.
Established in 1987, NAACCR is a collaborative umbrella organization for cancer registries, governmental agencies, professional associations, and private groups in North America interested in enhancing the quality and use of cancer registry data. Most central cancer registries in the United States and Canada are members.
