Administrative Structure
Research management at the Keck School is organized on a matrix structure.
M. Elizabeth Fini, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research and Thomas A. Buchanan, M.D., Associate Dean for Clinical Research serve on the Dean’s senior staff, which is the Keck School’s leadership team.
Dr. Fini coordinates research overall and provides leadership for implementation of the research strategic plan and new initiatives. She also heads the Office of Research Advancement – also called Keck Research Advancement (KRA) - the school’s research administrative and support office. She further provides management support to the Dean’s Office.
Dr. Buchanan provides programmatic leadership for clinical research. His major role is to head USC’s Southern California Clinical & Translational Science Institute. The SC CTSI reports to the USC Vice President for Research, but is coordinated by the Keck School.
Steven Mackey serves as executive director, of the USC-affiliated Health Research Association (HRA) and the executive director for Clinical Research at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Founded in 1947, HRA provides clinical trials support services to USC. Mackey reports to Coreen Rodgers, Chief Operating Officer, Keck School of Medicine of USC.
