Overview

Dr. Katja Reuter is Assistant Professor of Clinical Preventive Medicine at the Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She also serves as Director of Digital Innovation and Communication for the Southern California Clinical and Translational Research Institute (SC CTSI).

Her research focuses on accelerating science to improve the health of diverse and vulnerable populations through three major areas: (1) Developing new digital communication models that foster health promotion and disease prevention among diverse and vulnerable populations; (2) Improving the conduct of clinical and translational research with a focus on establishing and advancing the science of digital research participant recruitment; and (C) Establishing, teaching, and integrating digital scholarship into the health sciences.

At SC CTSI, Dr. Reuter oversees the institute’s communications and digital initiatives to identify opportunities where online assets can provide solutions. She leads a team that develops, demonstrates and disseminates digital solutions for challenges in clinical and translational research and education. In 2014, she launched the Digital Scholarship Program that helps researchers to better utilize the web in support of their research and career goals.

Dr. Reuter obtained a PhD in developmental neurobiology from the Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany. She also brings experience as a science communications professional who has worked in biomedical research institutions as well as in the media industry. After completing additional training in journalism and Web production and working as a freelance science writer for print media and the radio, she joined the German Cancer Research Center as science editor. Prior to joining faculty at the University of Southern California, Dr. Reuter worked as Associate Director of Communication at the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University California, San Francisco.
