Overview

Dr. Zhou's major areas of research interest are transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of pulmonary alveolar epithelial cell (AEC) differentiation and plasticity; role of ER stress and chaperone protein GRP78 in epithelial abnormalities during development in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, among others. Her current research includes the role of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in mediating EMT/pulmonary fibrosis, mechanisms underlying ER stress-mediated and transforming growth factor ß1 (TGF-ß1)-induced EMT/fibrosis and related signaling pathways.

Dr. Zhou earned her Master's in Microbiology from the Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. She then went on to complete her PhD in Molecular Pharmacology and Toxicology at USC.
