Overview

Katja Reuter is Director of Digital Innovation and Communication at the Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute (SC CTSI; http://sc-ctsi.org) at the University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

At SC CTSI, Katja oversees the institute’s communications and digital initiatives to identify opportunities where online assets can provide solutions. She leads a team that develops, demonstrates and disseminates digital solutions for challenges in clinical and translational research and education, for example to educate and engage diverse communities in clinical research, increase public awareness and understanding of clinical research, transform research participant recruitment, enable the discovery of research expertise and research networking, and enhance the digital capabilities of clinical researchers. In 2014, she launched the Digital Scholar Training Series that helps researchers to better utilize the web in support of their research and career goals (http://sc-ctsi.org/digital-scholar/index.html).

Katja is interested in fostering new forms of scholarly communication (digital scholarship) and community engagement as well as utilizing digital/social media and solution-oriented research to develop and evaluate effective approaches that promote science and health.

Katja received her PhD in developmental neuroscience from the Free University in Berlin, Germany. She also brings experience as a science communications professional who has worked in biomedical research institutions as well as in the media industry and together with Nobel laureate Harald zur Hausen co-authored the book “Fighting cancer: the journey of a thought-provoking idea."
