Michael A. Core, MD was raised in East Los Angeles, CA, graduated from Yale University with a BS in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, then graduated from Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine. Though he always envisioned himself becoming a physician, the journey through which Dr. Core entered medicine impressed upon him a deep desire to use medicine as a tool for social change. As a participant in the Harbor-UCLA Department of Family Medicine Summer Urban Health Fellowship, he realized that he too could be a community-based physician, one who goes beyond the clinic to address the needs of his community. He returned to Los Angeles to complete his training in Family Medicine at the Harbor-UCLA Family Medicine Residency Program. During that time he developed a love of teaching and for full spectrum Family Medicine. Dr. Core decided to stay at Harbor-UCLA as a Chief Resident and Faculty Development Fellow. He then ventured north to California Hospital Medical Center to complete an Obstetrics Fellowship through the Department of Family Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Dr. Core now serves as faculty at the USC-California Hospital Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program providing full-spectrum Family Medicine care to an urban, underserved community both in the hospital and through a Federally Qualified Health Center (which is currently applying for NCQA PCHM designation).
