Dr. Tanya Alderete received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a Chemistry minor and an additional concentration in Neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania. Before beginning at as a graduate student, Dr. Alderete worked as a Research Assistant in Neurobiology at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Southern California (USC). Dr. Alderete received her Ph.D. in Integrative Biology of Disease from the USC in 2014 where she is currently a postdoctoral scholar - research associate. Her research efforts are focused on understanding mechanisms and biological pathways that contribute to human disease and health disparities in obesity and type 2 diabetes. Specifically, her current research examines the role of the gut microbiome, environmental air pollution exposure, and inflammation in obesity related disease risk.
