Department of Medicine
About the Department
We continually seek to conduct cutting-edge, internationally recognized research, provide exceptional and compassionate patient care and offer a comprehensive training program for medical students and residents in internal medicine and the subspecialties. Patient care services have expanded and our many satellite and affiliated locations continue to evolve. Keck Medicine of USC has acquired the prestigious Orange Coast Oncology Hematology (OCOH) group to create three USC Norris Oncology/Hematology locations in Orange County: Huntington Beach, Newport Beach and Irvine. The Division has increased staffing of these locations to support growth. This acquisition allows advanced treatment and clinical trial opportunities to be available to Orange County residents in their local communities.
Keck Medicine is working in collaboration with Hoag Hospital to continue expanding a higher level of comprehensive cancer and oncology services throughout Southern California.
In addition to our continued expansion into Orange County, we have successfully recruited clinicians in the strategic areas of cancer, gastroenterology, cardiovascular medicine and organ transplant. Implementation of a Primary Care Initiative began with the recruitment of six primary care internists during the first phase of development as we expand in Beverly Hills, Downtown Los Angeles, La Cañada, and the University Park Campus.
The Department of Medicine is tireless in its efforts to deliver the highest quality care to the population of Southern California.

The Department of Medicine leads USC in the provision of clinical care in both the public and private venues of the Health Sciences Campus and is dedicated to providing quality, state-of-the-art patient care to both insured and uninsured patient populations. The Department has maintained its goal of providing optimal quality and efficiency of patient services, in both the private and public settings.
The Department of Medicine continues its intensive investment in advancing educational programs at both the Graduate and Undergraduate levels. Department faculty contribute extensively to medical student education in both the basic science and clinical clerkship years and directly supervise the training of nearly 270 house officers and fellows each year. The Department reviews, revises and delivers curricula for medical students and Internal Medicine trainees each year and provides each group with a comprehensive and rich educational milieu.
More than 90 Department of Medicine (DOM) faculty are currently engaged in basic and/or clinical (translational) research activities, 48 of them as Principal Investigators. These medical research programs are supported by expenditures now exceeding $53 million annually, of which 83% are federally (primarily NIH) sponsored.
