29th Annual Max R. Gaspar Vascular Surgery Symposium

The 29th Annual Max R. Gaspar, MD, Symposium takes place on September 4, 2025. Every year the Gaspar symposium explores a different topic, one chosen to be of interest to medical professionals at every level. This year, the topic is “Zebras, Unicorns, and Black Swans: Beyond “Everyday” Vascular Surgery.

Kenneth R. Ziegler, MD and Sukgu Han, MD, moderate three sessions through the day encompassing the myriad manifestations of vascular disease that are outside the “bread and butter” diagnoses, but are important to consider and understand. There will be a special session focused on the manifestations of vascular disease in children.

The first half of the day will conclude with a lecture from the Gaspar Visiting Professor Dawn Coleman, MD, Chief of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Surgery at Duke University. After lunch, Dr. Coleman will moderate Session III: Pediatric Surgery. Contributing speakers include the faculty of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and guest speakers from a wide cross-section of disciplines. The program is presented by the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy in concert with the USC Office of Continuing Medical Education, and participants are eligible for CME credit.

1. Identify advanced complex endovascular treatments available to patients through symbiotic relationships between cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, and specialist partners.
2. Discuss the importance of integrated care pathways with affiliated health professionals in the long-term maintenance of remission in chronic limb threatening ischemia
3. Assess efforts toward prevention of amputation with targeted interventions informed by social science approaches.
4. Integrate knowledge from basic sciences in the understanding of aortic pathology and treatment.

The Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California designates this Live Activity activity for a maximum of 6.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
