3D Printing/VR in the Hospital and Beyond
July 28 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
The use of 3D printing and virtual reality have exploded in the consumer space over the past decade. Exciting developments have also enabled extraordinary use in the medical, forensic, and veterinary domains. Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego is home to the Webster Foundation 3D Innovations Lab, which bridges the gaps between these emerging technologies, surgical planning, and novel research. Justin Ryan, Ph.D. (3D lab director, research scientist) will lead a series of short presentations by Matthew Brigger, MD (airway surgeon), Joe Mullins (forensic imaging specialist with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children), Summer Decker, Ph.D. (3D lab director at USC Keck School of Medicine, professor), and Parham Gholami (innovation engineer, former video game developer). A Q&A session will follow, including last year’s panelist Michael Levy, MD (neurosurgeon), to explore how this gaming/entertainment-focused technology can help our most vulnerable patients and improve our understanding of the medical, forensic, and zoological world.
Location: Grand 12 & 13, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina
