SUMMARY:2024 USC Global Health Case Competition
DESCRIPTION:The annual USC Global Health Case Competition brings together teams of students from all disciplines\, and from across the university\, to tackle a critical global health challenge. This year the competition will take place virtually on February 23\, 2024. \n  \nFourteen days after receiving the case\, each team of five students must propose an innovative\, comprehensive solution to a panel of expert judges from around the world. The top three teams will win cash prizes\, and the winning team will be sponsored by IIGH to represent USC at the 2024 Emory Morningside Global Health Case Competition in Atlanta\, Georgia. \nWinning teams receive cash prizes! \n\n1st Place: $500\n2nd Place: $250\n3rd Place: $100\n\nThe 1st place winning team will also be funded to travel to Atlanta\, Georgia to represent USC at the Emory University Morningside Global Health Case Competition\, with travel to in-person activities on March 22-23. Monique Kornell is an art historian concerned with the evolution of the anatomical print and the bibliography of the history of medicine\, specializing in anatomical book illustration and anatomy books for artists. This talk will revisit the 2022 exhibition at the Getty Research Institute\, Los Angeles\, and themes of the representation of the body over the course of five hundred years from the rise of new visual maps of the human form in the Renaissance to the present day. DESCRIPTION:“Pain Management & Opioid Stewardship: Revised Controlled Substance Prescribing Guidelines” with Dr. Michael Bottros\, MD \nMichael Bottros\, MD\, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Medical Director of Pain Services at Keck School of Medicine of USC\, is a nationally recognized leader in the field of acute and chronic pain management. He founded the Acute Pain Service at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 2013\, which rapidly became an essential component of perioperative care for thousands of patients annually.  \nFor his outstanding work in education\, Dr. Bottros has received awards including the Department of Anesthesiology Teacher of the Year Award and Department of Surgery “Friend of the Surgery Resident Award”. He’s published numerous peer-reviewed\, scientific papers in the fields of Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology\, and has been invited to speak at over 100 local\, national\, and international conferences. \nHis clinical interests include treating occipital neuralgia\, cervicogenic headache\, neck pain\, low back pain\, failed back surgery syndrome\, neuropathy\, complex regional pain syndrome\, and chronic post-surgery pain.
