SUMMARY:From Peril to Promise: Young People's Sexual Health and Rights in a Shifting World
DESCRIPTION:Young people’s sexual health and rights have never been more contested\, nor the case for cross-sector collaboration\, research\, advocacy\, and funding more urgent. As human rights and democratic norms are increasingly challenged\, youth populations face growing attacks and restrictions on their bodily autonomy\, access to information\, and other key rights essential to their health. In this moment\, the need for strengthened relationships and learning across sectors\, with particular attention to how movements can be youth-informed and sustainably resourced has never been more needed. \nThis 90-minute virtual event will bring together young advocates alongside experts and representatives from U.N. agencies\, government\, academia\, and civil society to take stock and consider how we can advance collectively in this rapidly shifting landscape. The conversation will be informed by three years of the Global Initiative on Young People’s Sexual Rights and Health\, an initiative which engaged research\, policy\, and educational programming in Los Angeles and São Paulo to advance young people’s sexual health and rights. \nThe event will feature keynote remarks from Rajat Khosla\, Executive Director of the Partnership for Maternal\, Newborn\, and Child Health (PMNCH)\, panel dialogues on youth engagement in sexual health and rights advocacy and on strengthening the research to policy pipeline\, as well as time for questions and contributions from the audience.

SUMMARY:4/23/26 Chen Institute-USC Symposium
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the 4th Annual Chen Institute-USC Symposia Series on Neuroscience and Artificial Intelligence in Sensation and Motivation\, to be held on Thursday\, April 23 and Friday\, April 24\, 2026\, as part of the ongoing partnership between the Chen Institute and the University of Southern California.   \nOn behalf of Drs. Li Zhang and Steve Kay of the USC Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute and the Department of Physiology and Neuroscience\, you are cordially invite to join us on April 23\, 2026 from 9:00AM to 5:00PM at ZNI Herklotz Conference Room ZNI 112\, for a day of inspiring science\, meaningful conversation\, and community. \nThe 2026 symposium will maintain its central focus on a fundamental question in systems neuroscience: How do brain circuits integrate external sensory inputs and internal states to generate motivated behavior? The meeting will convene leading investigators to examine the circuit\, computational\, and theoretical principles that underlie sensation and motivation. \nThis year\, the symposium will place expanded emphasis on the rapidly advancing interface between neuroscience and artificial intelligence. In particular\, the program will highlight the bidirectional integration of AI methodologies with neuroscience research — exploring how machine learning and computational frameworks inform the study of neural systems\, and how insights from brain function guide the development of artificial intelligence. By fostering dialogue across experimental\, computational\, and theoretical approaches\, the symposium aims to clarify shared principles\, identify critical open questions\, and promote rigorous interdisciplinary collaboration. \nThe program will take place over two days: \n9:00AM-5:00PM            Thursday\, April 23\, 2026 — Public symposium featuring invited lectures and scientific discussion \n9:00AM-5:00PM            Friday\, April 24\, 2026 — Private Speakers’ Workshop (invitation only)\, dedicated to in-depth discussion and the development of future collaborative directions \nWe are honored to welcome the following distinguished speakers: \nBrice Bathellier — Institut Pasteur and Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS)\, France \nBing Wen Brunton — University of Washington \nLaura Busse — Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU)\, Germany \nMichael Halassa — Tufts University \nBrian Lee — University of Southern California (USC) \nLauren McElvain — University of Southern California (USC) \nSamuel Nastase — University of Southern California (USC) \nTalmo Pereira — Salk Institute for Biological Studies \nHerbert Zheng Wu — Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai \nDaniel L.K. (Dan) Yamins — Stanford University \nGuangwei Zhang — Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) \nAll students\, PhD candidates\, staff\, postdoctoral fellows\, faculty\, and alumni are warmly welcome. \nPlease RSVP at https://www.cheninstitute.org/events-new/sensation-motivation-and-ai-2026   Food and beverage will be provided. Thank you.
