SUMMARY:Cancer Epidemiology Seminar Series - Dr. Meredith Hullar
DESCRIPTION:The Cancer Epidemiology Program of USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences is excited to announce our next Cancer Epidemiology Seminar from Dr. Meredith Hullar.  \nUSC Cancer Epidemiology Seminar Series \nWednesday\, April 29\, 2026 @ 10:00-11:00 AM \n“Investigations of the intratumoral microbiome in colorectal cancer across human populations“ \nDr. Meredith Hullar is a Principal Staff Scientist in the Division of Public Health Sciences at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Her research currently focuses on characterizing and understanding the role of the tumor microbiome in colorectal cancer (CRC) and its impact on cancer pathways and patient outcomes. Dr. Hullar has worked across several large human cohorts to assess the intratumoral microbiome in CRC. Her work integrates scalable tools from molecular biology and bioinformatics to assess individual pathogens and broader aspects of the intratumoral microbial community in human populations.  In particular\, she is interested in the interplay of individual pathogens and pathways within the intratumoral microbiome as it relates to CRC survival across population groups. \nPlease see attached flyer for more information and the Zoom link. \nhttps://usc.zoom.us/j/97954409180?pwd=CRiobV8AtNpqBu4yUCHeX2DXJjGC0I.1

SUMMARY:A Tale of Two Cities: Dr. Mitch Besser in Conversation with Dr. Howard Hu
DESCRIPTION:The Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Applied Studies (IDEAS) Initiative and the USC Institute on Inequalities in Global Health (IIGH) invite you to a hybrid seminar featuring Dr. Mitch Besser\, Founder of Mothers2Mothers and CEO\, Founder of AgeWell Global. \n\nDr. Besser is a graduate of Harvard Medical School. As an obstetrician and gynecologist\, his professional career was first dedicated to the public health needs of women. In 2001\, Dr. Besser founded mothers2mothers\, an Africa-based\, peer-to-peer support program in which mothers living with HIV are employed to work in health centers and communities\, educating and supporting pregnant women and new mothers with HIV. In the ensuing decade\, the program grew to reach 20% of pregnant women living with HIV globally. \n\nDr. Besser has now launched AgeWell\, a similar peer-to-peer model employing older adults to improve the social well-being and physical health of older persons. AgeWell was successfully piloted in South Africa in 2014 attracting the attention of the World Health Organization. It is now being launched in the U.S. \n\nPlease help us spread the word to interested colleagues\, staff\, and students. \n\nRegister for ZOOM link: April 30 IDEAS Initiative Seminar Registration Link
