Inclusive Excellence

The Keck School of Medicine of USC Office of Diversity and Inclusion is committed to creating and fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive work and learning environment. This includes recruiting and retaining trainees, faculty and staff of varied backgrounds, including those from historically marginalized communities and others underrepresented in medicine and science. Our office strives to create an environment that honors the differences of our team members and exemplifies USC’s unifying values.The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is proud to serve the diverse population of Los Angeles, and we seek to create a workforce that reflects our broader community.These efforts are supported through a dedicated departmental DEI Champion who also works closely with JEDI-WeST.

Student Organizations

Several student groups promote diversity through cultural celebrations and by providing educational programs to stimulate underrepresented minority elementary and high school students to excel academically.

Community Activities

The Keck School maintains an active role in the community and has a well-documented history of developing and promoting educational programs to improve the health status of underrepresented minorities.

Trainings

Implicit Bias Trainings

The Center for GEMS, in collaboration with KSOM faculty member, Dr. Nicole Mitchell-Chadwick, is offering an opportunity for departments/institutes/centers to receive complimentary, live implicit bias trainings. Sessions are 1-2 hours and include individualized survey creation, analysis, and training concepts. Please see flyer for more information. LGBTQ+ Health Trainings
In collaboration with Lindsey (Lawrence) Morrison, chair of the Keck Pride committee, the Center for GEMS is offering a menu of training options to KSOM departments, institutes, and centers. We all have a role to play in creating affirming, welcoming environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people, and these trainings are designed for all levels of familiarity and comfort with sexual orientation and gender identity terminology and concepts. Inclusion Resource Groups (IRGs)
The Keck School is proud to launch an Inclusion Resource Groups (IRG) Program, sponsored by the JEDI-WeST (Justice through Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Well-being and Social Transformation) Committee and the Center for GEMS. The mission of the IRG Program is to foster and advocate for an inclusive campus community that celebrates our diversity and intentionally contributes to a sense of belonging and being valued. The program is establishing five IRGs this fall for the following groups:

  • Black & African American Community
  • LatinX & Hispanic Community
  • LGBTQ+ Community
  • Women
  • Mental Health & Neurodiversity
