Overview

Matt Kirkpatrick, PhD is an Associate Professor of Research in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences in the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California. He is the PI of the Drug Use & Behavior Laboratory (DUB Lab), which uses behavioral pharmacology, Ecological Momentary Assessment, and survey methods to focus on how drugs – including stimulants, cannabis, alcohol, and tobacco – function in social contexts, with an emphasis on how friends and family influence which drugs an individual uses, how much they use, whether or not they develop problematic use, and—if they do—whether or not they’ll be successful at quitting.

Dr. Kirkpatrick earned his B.A. in Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Ph.D. in Psychology at Columbia University. Dr. Kirkpatrick completed postdoctoral training in neuropsychopharmacology at the University of Chicago.
