Endowed Chairs and Professorships

At USC, a Named Professor or Chair can be awarded to a distinguished faculty member in a specific discipline or inter-disciplinary area who is supported wholly or partly by funds for this purpose.

At the Keck School, Endowed Professorships and Chairs are generally awarded within this framework on a renewable 5-year basis; after 5 years, a 3-person committee of other Endowed Chairs will convene to evaluate renewal. Assistant or Associate Endowed Professorships are generally awarded on a 3-year non-renewable basis.

A request to OFAAI to award an Endowed position to a faculty member must include:

  • a letter of nomination (approved by the Dean) from the holder of another Endowed position, a Department Chair or Institutional Director.
  • a current CV from the nominee.

OFAAI will process the request, and upon completion, the Dean will notify the appointee, the chair of the appointee’s department, the chair of any joint or dual appointment department, and the Associate Vice Provost for Health Sciences School Academic and Faculty Affairs.

Appointments are subject to University policy and are awarded by the Senior Vice President of Health Affairs on behalf of the President.
