Dr. Katja Reuter is Assistant Professor of Clinical Preventive Medicine at the Institute for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Research in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. She also serves as Director of Digital Innovation and Communication for the Southern California Clinical and Translational Research Institute (SC CTSI).

Her research focuses on three major areas: (1) developing new digital communication models that foster health promotion and disease prevention among diverse and vulnerable populations; (2) improving the conduct of clinical and translational research with a focus on establishing and advancing the science of digital research participant recruitment; and (C) integrating digital scholarship training into the health sciences.

At SC CTSI, Dr. Reuter oversees the institute’s communications and digital initiatives to identify opportunities where online assets can provide solutions. She leads a team that develops, demonstrates and disseminates digital solutions for challenges in clinical and translational research and education.

Dr. Reuter also founded and directs the Digital Scholar Program to help researchers better utilize digital practices and tools to achieve their research and career goals.

Dr. Reuter obtained a Ph.D. in developmental neurobiology from the Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany. She also brings experience as a science communications professional who has worked in biomedical research institutions as well as in the media industry. After completing additional training in journalism and Web production and working as a freelance science writer for print media and the radio, she joined the German Cancer Research Center as science editor. Before joining faculty at the University of Southern California, Dr. Reuter worked as Associate Director of Communication at the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University California, San Francisco.
