Marco A. Hidalgo, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and faculty clinical psychologist in the Center for Transyouth Health and Development at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He joined the CHLA/KSOM faculty in 2018, after relocating from Lurie Children's Hospital/Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In 2013, while faculty at Lurie Children's, Dr. Hidalgo co-established the nationally-renowned Gender and Sex Development Program — the Midwest's largest pediatric subspecialty program for transgender/gender-expansive children, adolescents, young adults and their families.

Dr. Hidalgo's research examines gender development, family support, and behavioral HIV prevention intervention in transgender/gender-expansive youth and YMSM. He is particularly interested in assessing the impact of minority stress factors and gender-affirmative care among transgender youth, mobile-platform behavioral HIV intervention with YMSM, and PrEP uptake in Latinx young adults. He is currently Co-Investigator on three multisite, NIH-funded studies examining: (1) the impact of early medical treatment in transgender youth who seek care in Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco; (2) efficacy outcomes of a RCT employing a mobile-based adaptation of the MyPEEPS behavioral HIV prevention intervention among YMSM in New York City, Birmingham, Seattle, and Chicago, and; (3) the effects of couples-based versus individual HIV-testing approaches on ARV uptake/adherence among HIV-serodiscordant male couples in Atlanta, Boston, and Chicago.

In his clinical work, Dr. Hidalgo sees children, adolescents and young adults (up to age 25) in individual and family therapy. He integrates evidence-based approaches to treat behavior problems and other problems related to depressive, anxiety, acute-stress and post-traumatic stress conditions.

Dr. Hidalgo teaches CHLA/KSOM trainees and fellows on topics relevant to adolescent behavioral health, LGBTQ health, and behavioral research. In 2017, he was recognized by Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine for his excellence in teaching on topics related to child-adolescent gender and sexuality.
