Dr. Vishal Patel earned the Doctor of Medicine degree from UCLA, where he also completed his residency training in diagnostic radiology and served as Chief Resident. He is also trained in the field of biomedical engineering, having earned his Bachelor of Science from Brown University and his Doctor of Philosophy from UCLA. After completing fellowship training in neuroradiology at the University of Southern California, he joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Radiology in the Keck School of Medicine of USC. In addition to his neuroradiology practice, Dr. Patel teaches the Neuroimaging and Systems Neuroscience course in the Master of Science in Neuroimaging and Informatics graduate curriculum at USC, and he also serves as Medical Director for the Center for Image Acquisition at the USC Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute, a facility that houses one of the few active FDA-approved ultra-high field 7T MRI systems in the United States. \n\nDr. Patel's research interests include the application of computational and statistical methods to improve the quality of magnetic resonance imaging. He is particularly interested in how advances in MRI can improve the detection of epilepsy and brain tumors, with associated benefits for patients and their families. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications regarding these topics, presented numerous scientific abstracts at local and international conferences, and received several awards in recognition of his research efforts.
