Wange Lu obtained his PhD from Harvard Medical School in 1998. His PhD research focused on signal transduction in cancer cells. He then moved on to do a postdoctoral fellowship with David Baltimore, a Nobel laureate, at the California Institute of Technology. In the Baltimore lab, he began to study neuroscience. Particularly, he identified a novel non-canonical Wnt signal transduction pathway in neurons, where it plays a very important role in axon guidance and neurite outgrowth. In 2006, he moved to across town to the Keck School of Medicine of USC to set up his own lab. He extended his research to mechanisms of neural stem cell self-renewal and differentiation, iPS cell induction and neurological diseases.
