Geriatric Medicine Fellowship
Faculty members in the division of geriatric, hospital, palliative and general internal medicine (GHPGIM) are responsible for the supervision of Geriatric Medicine fellows who gain experience in the care of senior patients in a variety of clinical settings, including inpatient medicine and surgical wards, outpatient clinic, long-term nursing home services, and subacute care and subspecialty clinics. There are special emphases on acute geriatric medical care, inpatient geriatric consultation, geriatric rehabilitation, acute skilled nursing care, geriatric psychiatric illness and end-of-life care. The program is designed to train physicians for an academic career, clinical practice in geriatric medicine or management of health services for older persons. The Geriatrics Fellowship program is currently accepting applications for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Hospital Medicine Fellowship
In collaboration with ApolloMed, an integrated physician-centric health care delivery company, the division of GHPGIM introduced a one-year fellowship position in hospital medicine, designed to provide experience in all aspects of inpatient medicine health care delivery. The curriculum provides trainees with the foundation to become the next generation of hospitalist program directors, clinicians and medical educators. Activities include 50% inpatient practice in both public and private settings at USC and 50% nonclinical training in community settings with ApolloMed. Fellows are closely supervised by senior faculty members and assume supervision of residents during USC rotations. The fellow is expected to be involved in providing medical education of residents, providing patient care with residents, and providing direct patient care with supervision of an attending physician. Fellows attend relevant conferences on campus in hospitalist medicine, geriatrics and palliative care and participate in the process of patient safety, quality improvement and utilization management. Please note, the Hospital Medicine Fellowship is on hold for further evaluation for this academic year.
