the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Hospital; and the Keck Hospital of USC.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work within the multi-disciplinary environment of the NCI-designated cancer center USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work within the academic, research, and clinical environment of the Divisions of Hematology and Oncology, with its world renowned clinical and translational research expertise and ground-breaking clinical trials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" data-fontsize=\"24\" data-lineheight=\"36px\">Mission statement<\/h3>\n<p>The mission of the USC\/Los Angeles General Medical Center Hematology\/Medical Oncology Fellowship Program is to train physicians to be compassionate, highly competent clinicians, scholars, and leaders in the field of hematology and medical oncology. With a wide breadth of scholarly activity and clinical experience, we train physicians who can pursue either academic or community-based careers. This approach has been predicted on knowledge of anticancer drug resistance, increased understanding of the genes associated with familial and sporadic patterns of malignancy, the immunologic basis of tumor response and resistance, and a more precise assessment of the pharmacology of novel anticancer compounds. weeks per year, as part of a newly-developed curriculum covering Hematology and Clinical Immunology. The course emphasizes cases-based learning with involvement of all tenured or tenure-track faculty. Each day involves approximately four to five hours of small group instruction, with one faculty member directly responsible for approximately 20 students.
