Summer Medical Student Research (SUMMR) Program – Philadelphia, PA

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) are committed to fostering an inclusive community of future clinicians and scientists. We recognize that talented students may face barriers to accessing academic medicine, and the Summer Medical Student Research (SUMMR) Program is designed to help overcome those challenges by providing meaningful research and clinical experiences.

The SUMMR program offers participants the opportunity to work alongside internationally recognized experts in pediatric care and child health research, while engaging in activities that promote professional growth and mentorship.

Program Details:

  • Dates: June 8 – July 31, 2026 (in-person orientation on June 4)
  • Location: CHOP Main Campus, Philadelphia
  • Stipend: $5,000
  • Format: In-person, 8-week experience featuring research mentorship, lectures, and clinical activities
  • Opportunities: Primarily within the Department of Pediatrics, with limited (non-guaranteed) availability of options in Radiology, Pediatric Surgery, Child Psychiatry, Pathology, and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine/Anesthesia
  • Networking: Scholars will connect with departmental leaders, residency program leadership, and trainees

Eligibility:

  • Must attend all 8 weeks of the program
  • U.S. citizens enrolled in U.S. medical schools
  • Medical students between their first and second years OR students completing their undergraduate degree with acceptance and plans to attend medical school

Applications are now open. Complete applications (including CV, personal statement, and one letter of recommendation) must be submitted by 11:59 PM on January 5, 2026. Final decisions will be communicated by mid-to-late February.
