Opportunity – Explore the Field of Nephrology

April 24, 2026

The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) was founded in 1966 and is the world’s largest professional society devoted to the study of kidney disease.

The society has several initiatives and grants to expand and support the nephrology clinical and research workforce. One of these initiatives is a program held at our annual meeting, ASN Kidney Week, called the ASN Kidney STARS (Students and Residents) program. Please see below for more information.

Receive Travel Support to Attend ASN Kidney Week 2026

Travel support applications to attend the world’s premier nephrology meeting, ASN Kidney Week 2026, will open on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. This meeting provides the opportunity to exchange knowledge, learn the latest scientific and medical advances, and listen to engaging and provocative discussions with leading experts in the field.

Held at ASN Kidney Week, the ASN Kidney Students and Residents (STARS) program is designed to help trainees explore the career opportunities available in nephrology. The Kidney STARS program pairs trainees with fellow and faculty mentors who will serve as their resources during the program, which runs from Thursday, October 22, to the afternoon of Saturday, October 24, 2026.

 Applicants must be:

  • A graduate student, medical student, or resident in good standing at the time of ASN Kidney Week who is enrolled in an accredited training program or university.
