et_pb_text et_pb_text_2 et_pb_text_align_left et_pb_bg_layout_light\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_text_inner\">\n<p>The practicum is a 1-unit course consisting of an applied practice experience meant to enrich students\u2019 educational training in public health by providing an opportunity to apply knowledge and skilled acquired from their concentration to public health research or practice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>All MPH students will:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>secure a placement prior to enrollment in the course and\u00a0complete 260 hours of field training (150 hours for dual degree students) in a public health agency, such as a county health department, or a community-based organization.<\/li>\n<li>complete a mid-practicum assessment with the Practicum Director.<\/li>\n<li>produce a collection of materials \u2013 \u201cPracticum Products\u201d \u2013 showcasing accomplishments and demonstrating target competencies agreed upon between the student and Practicum Director prior to the field experience. Dual degree students entering the program in Fall 2013 or th<span data-ogsb=\"white\">ereafter will register for<\/span><span data-ogsb=\"white\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsb=\"white\">1<\/span><span data-ogsb=\"white\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsb=\"white\">units of PM 596 (Practicum) and<\/span><span data-ogsb=\"white\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ogsb=\"white\">1<\/span>\u00a0units of PM 597 (Capstone) and complete 150 field training hours.<\/p>\n<p>Students with previous public health employment also may be eligible for a waiver of hours. Applications will only be considered if students can verify three years of continuous, paid, public health employment prior to enrollment in the MPH program. Public health work involves organized community-based efforts.
