People with epilepsy have the option of taking part in clinical trials being conducted at Keck Medicine of USC and elsewhere. While clinical trial participation does not ensure that an effective treatment will be received, participation does help provide invaluable information for future treatments. Keck School of Medicine of USC faculty members lead and participate in many of the nation\u2019s largest multi-center clinical trials, as well as in many unique smaller trials. Petzinger is a Movement Disorders Specialist and translational neuroscientist at The University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine. She completed her MD at the University of Southern California, her Neurology Residency at Yale University, and Movement Disorders Fellowship at Columbia University. Her basic science research in Parkinson\u2019s (PD) and Huntington\u2019s disease (HD) investigates the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms by which experience in the form of exercise can facilitate neuroplasticity and repair within motor and cognitive circuits affected in these disorders. Studies in her lab focus on investigating alterations in dopamine and glutamate neurotransmission as well as cortical-striatal connectivity and behavior.
