Retinal Perfusion Measure Could Help Detect Earlier Cerebral Small Vessel Disease, Impaired Cognition: Neurology Today

Black Americans are underrepresented in ongoing dementia studies but are often at higher risk for vascular-related dementias, senior author Xuejuan Jiang, PhD, associate professor of research ophthalmology and director of biostatistics at the Keck School of Medicine at University of Southern California (USC), told Neurology Today.

“From other studies we have done here at USC, we have seen that they do have more of these small vessel changes, but they are often under-diagnosed and under-treated, and their diagnosis is much more delayed than their White counterparts.”
