Volunteers from Roski set up a booth at the festival’s Hero Complex row of University Park Campus during the festival.

While staff fielded questions and physicians provided medical advice, USC medical students had the opportunity to provide basic eye exams to attendees.

“I did this event two years ago when it was offered as a first year, and it was a great experience,” said Aaron Rael, a fourth-year medical student at USC, who plans to pursue a residency in ophthalmology. “I had some older students to help me through it at the time. I wanted to do the same for any new students who are here today. It’s always great to do as much hands-on work in the field I’m interested in. It’s always beneficial.”

“I’m really interested in ophthalmology,” added Linda Wu, a first-year USC medical student. “Being able to volunteer in a vision screening clinic and see how patients can benefit is helping me shape my future career goals.”

Roski provided vision screenings to nearly 100 attendees over the course of the event. Community members left the booth with a better knowledge of prescription glasses, various eye conditions, and ways to seek treatment.
