people around the country suffer from chronic pain.\u00a0 The good news is that there are also many different ways that people can try to manage that pain.\u00a0 Researchers are continuously looking for additional tools that people can use to help them find relief.\u00a0 Every year, more <a href=\"https:\/\/ostrowon.usc.edu\/2019\/11\/26\/non-pharmacological-interventions-to-help-older-people-with-chronic-pain\/\">chronic pain management methods<\/a> come about, giving people additional options to consider and try as part of their pain management routine.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In a new study published in the April 2020 issue of the <em>Journal of Medical Internet Research<\/em>, researchers set out to determine if there was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/32348281\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mind-body physical activity program<\/a> that would help people with chronic pain. [1]<\/p>\n<p>They created a test with 82 participants using a mind-body physical activity program called GetActive.\u00a0 Half of the participants used a digital monitoring device for their physical activity, while the other half did not.<\/p>\n<p>The GetActive program combines relaxation with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.confrontingchronicpain.com\/optimizing-cognitive-function-in-those-with-chronic-pain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cognitive-behavioral<\/a> and physical restoration skills.\u00a0 Those who participated in the program provided in-person assessments both before and after they participated in the study.\u00a0 Each participants\u2019 base was then taken by assessing how they did with a 6-minute walk and measuring their step count.
