Division of Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine is the medical specialty that uses small amounts of radioactive materials for diagnosis, and somewhat large amounts for treatment of diseases. The emphasis in all Nuclear Medicine departments is on diagnosis of disease. In Nuclear Medicine, imaging the source of radioactivity is not in the machine but inside the patient for a short period of time.
Nuclear medicine imaging provides a variety of isotope based imaging to patients of nearly all medical specialties as well as therapy with unsealed sources to service all of the patients served by the Keck School of Medicine Faculty. There is a uniformity of practice standards at all facilities served and each faculty member practices at each facility.
