Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Fellowship

The Vision Center, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) has established a one-year AUPO FCC compliant fellowship in pediatric cataract, glaucoma and cornea with the University of Southern California Eye Institute and Keck School of Medicine. The fellowship also offers an optional second year. The fellowship is designed to provide an in-depth experience in treating a broad range of medical and surgical problems in children’s eye diseases, and should adequately prepare the fellow for an academic career in pediatric ophthalmology. The fellow spends the majority of his/her time at The Vision Center, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. During his/her time at The Vision Center, CHLA, the fellow will be involved in the care and management of all aspects of pediatric ophthalmology. Some time is also spent at Los Angeles General Medical Center interacting with residents.

There are two fellowships: a strabismus fellowship under supervision of Dr. Angela Buffen and a pediatric cataract, glaucoma, and cornea fellowship under the supervision of Dr. Bibiana Reiser and Dr. Thomas Lee. Fellows spend the majority of their time at The Vision Center, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. During his/her time at The Vision Center, CHLA, the fellow will be involved in the care and management of all aspects of pediatric ophthalmology including, but not limited to, strabismus, anterior segment disease, retinopathy of prematurity, neuro-ophthalmology, oculoplastics, and ocular oncology. Some time is also spent at Los Angeles General Medical Center interacting with residents.

Fellowship applicants must have completed an accredited residency in ophthalmology, and they must be Board eligible in ophthalmology. A California medical license is required in order to begin the fellowship.
