Biography

Dr. Robert Ryu attended Wesleyan University, and later earned his MD from Case Western Reserve University. He is an alumnus of the LAC+USC Diagnostic Radiology residency program, after which he completed his Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship training at the University of Colorado. He was a long-time member of the Interventional Radiology section at Northwestern University, where he also served as the Diagnostic Radiology residency program director for nine years. In 2013, Dr. Ryu was honored as the Teacher of the Year at Northwestern. He joined the University of Colorado in 2014, as the Division Chief of Interventional Radiology and Vice Chair of Education. In 2019, he was named the Dr. David A. Kumpe Endowed Chair and Professor of Interventional Radiology. Having authored over 130 peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Ryu’s areas of clinical and research expertise include venous thromboembolic disease, inferior vena cava filters, and interventional oncology. Dr. Ryu, along with his wife (Kirsten, whom he met at USC) and children (Gemma and Holden) rejoined the Trojan family in 2020 as the Chair of the Department of Radiology. He is an avid traveler, not-so-avid golfer, and passionate hockey player
