The IMPACT Collaboratory James L. Rudolph Career Development Award (CDA) supports early-stage investigators preparing to lead embedded pragmatic clinical trials (ePCTs) that improve care for people living with dementia (PLWD) and their care partners. Through training, mentorship, and collaboration with healthcare systems and experts in dementia care, awardees build skills in pragmatic trial design, implementation, ethics, and real-world research.

Proposed projects must:

• Build the investigator’s competency and experience in ePCTs involving PLWD.
• Generate preliminary, publishable data that supports future ePCT research involving PLWD and/or care partners.

Supported projects may include secondary data analysis, intervention development, or outcome measure development in preparation for a future ePCT. NIH-defined clinical trials are not eligible.

Eligible applicants are MD, PhD, or equivalent investigators, typically within seven years of completing postdoctoral training, who are committed to a career in dementia-focused ePCT research. Applicants must hold a faculty appointment by the award start date and devote at least 50% effort to the award.

Although IMPACT is supported by an NIA grant, CDA funds are treated as private philanthropy because awards are issued through a pass-through subaward from Brown University.
