Funding for programs that expand access to mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment, strengthen prevention and early intervention, and reduce loneliness and social isolation among affected individuals.

Program Goals:

• Increase the number of individuals receiving treatment for mental health and/or substance use disorders
• Expand screening, prevention, and early-intervention efforts
• Improve connection and reduce loneliness and social isolation

Priority will be given to proposals that:

• Support whole-person health
• Address health-related social needs
• Use culturally relevant, trust-building approaches
• Respond to the unique needs of the population served
• Offer innovative, scalable solutions
• Produce measurable outcomes

Potential measures of success:

• Number of individuals receiving treatment
• Mental health and substance use screening rates
• Percentage of individuals who screen positive and attend at least one treatment appointment
• Changes in loneliness and social isolation

Note that the funder does not specify the budget amount.  Across 2021–2024, the Foundation awarded $33.7 million to 77 behavioral health/SUD organizations, which equals an average of approximately $438,000 per organization. Because that average includes large national awards, a reasonable planning estimate for a local or regional proposal would be about $250,000–$500,000, while scalable national initiatives may seek more.
