Training is available in areas such as writing and editing assistance, grant budgets, and deciphering specific aims for different funding mechanisms.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"fusion-responsive-typography-calculated\" data-fontsize=\"24\" data-lineheight=\"36px\">USC Keck School of Medicine NIH R01 Boot Camp<\/h3>\n<p>This annual course is intended for Keck School faculty writing their first extramural R01 (or equivalent) proposal focused on basic, translational, clinical or population\/health sciences research. Participating faculty should already have a general concept of their specific aims, and have generated some preliminary data in support of the aims. Participating faculty should also have a recent publication history in the research area that supports their ability to serve as a Principal Investigator on an R01 grant. This course covers the following topics in an interactive format:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Introduction to NIH<\/li>\n<li>NIH Study Section and Review Criteria<\/li>\n<li>Specific Aims Do\u2019s and Don\u2019ts<\/li>\n<li>Significance and Innovation<\/li>\n<li>The Grant Overview Figure<\/li>\n<li>Organizing the Approach<\/li>\n<li>The NIH Biosketch<\/li>\n<li>Budget and Budget Justification<\/li>\n<li>Equipment and Facilities Pages<\/li>\n<li>Data Sharing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The biweekly format and structured assignment schedule are intended to enable the committed participant to generation of a full R01 proposal by course conclusion. Some of these awards also support scientists, engineers, computational biologists, and other purely research disciplines.
