The Space Planning Department is responsible for all aspects of Capital Project Planning, high-level, strategic space planning and facilities space planning for various projects on the Health Science Campus, as well as additional distributed sites as they come on board by way of lease or other agreement. In addition, the department plays a key role in the implementation of capital projects; conducts research related to physical planning for University facilities; liaises with internal and external consultants and partners, and provides specialized guidance to other staff within the unit. Other responsibilities include to support the faculty by managing facilities information, facilities operations in partnership with the Facilities Department, as well as space management both throughout the buildings that are located on the Health Science Campus and off-campus in the satellite building and some clinical spaces.

In 2015, our department implemented a comprehensive space management system using the Archibus/FM Computer Aided Facility Management system to maintain an extensive space inventory database and AutoCAD floor plans. This system also allows Space Planning Department to perform space programming studies, space needs assessments, and annual reporting for departmental use of budget decision that are crucial to an educational institution of this size and scope.
