Abdominal Organ Transplantation Program

Program description

The Abdominal Organ Transplantation Program at USC has been in operation since 1996. The program provides the following services:

1. Adult and pediatric deceased donor and live donor liver transplantation
2. Adult and pediatric deceased donor and live donor kidney transplantation
3. Adult pancreas transplantation
4. Pediatric intestinal and multivisceral transplantation
5. Hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery

At the current time, the program includes seven surgeons, two transplant nephrologists and seven transplant hepatologists. There also are dedicated anesthesiologists. The infrastructure includes transplant coordinators, social workers, financial counselors, dieticians and a support staff. There is an active clinical research section that works within the clinical program to provide new immunosuppressive agents and conduct industry-sponsored as well as investigator-initiated research.

The program is an American Society of Transplantation Surgery Kidney and Liver Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery Accredited Fellowship. Our program performs more than 100 liver transplants and more than 100 kidney transplants a year, as well as over 300 hepatobiliary/pancreatic surgeries.
