  • Donald G. Skinner, MD, emeritus professor and chair was chosen to receive the 2015 Faculty Lifetime Achievement Award at USC’s 34th annual Academic Honors Convocation.

Recognition

  • Developed a panel of three methylation urine makers that predict bladder cancer recurrence
  • Completed phase I evaluation of a novel anti-angiogenic targeted therapy
  • World’s largest series: Robotic intra- corporeal orthotopic neobladder with radical cystectomy in 132 patients; the first team in America to routinely offer this surgery for bladder cancer patients
  • Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol: decreased average hospital stay after open-radical cystectomy from nine days to four days
  • Robotic partial nephrectomy: super-selective clamping preserves more kidney volume and provides superior function than main renal artery clamping
  • World’s initial experience: Robotic level III inferior vena cava thrombectomy for kidney cancer
  • Innovations in image-guided prostate biopsies and focal therapy for prostate cancer
  • Cutting-edge technology: Obtained West Coast’s first a) laparoscopic HIFU machine and b) latest generation Xi robot
