Type 2 Diabetes in Youth
The prevalence of type 2 diabetes has been on the rise for the past two decades. A 2023 estimate projects a 7-fold increase in the number of youth with type 2 diabetes by 2060 in the United States. Multicenter clinical trials and registries have shed light on the natural history of youth onset type 2 diabetes. This presentation will review lessons learned on the pathophysiology and prevalence of diabetes related co-morbidities in youth. This presentation will also review the available treatment options. Barriers to effective diabetes management, including the psychosocial factors, will also be discussed.
