Improving equity in global health and overcoming the perversity of pandemic publishing: A BMJ (former Lancet) editor’s view

Guest Speaker: Jocalyn Clark MSc, PhD, FRCPE, FCAHS

Jocalyn Clark, MSc, PhD, FRCPE, FCAHS is an award-winning public health scientist and journalist, and one of the world’s most experienced medical journal editors. Over a 21 year editorial career at The BMJ, The Lancet, and PLOS Medicine, among others, her editorial leadership has helped globalize and diversify the top medical journals, reshaping the literature to be more inclusive of global health content, women, and experts from low and middle income countries.

Clark was appointed International Editor of The BMJ in August 2022, re-joining the journal 20 years after starting her editorial career at BMJ. Previously she was an Executive Editor of The Lancet (2016-2022) where she led #LancetWomen to advance women in global health, medicine and science; Executive Editor at icddr,b in Dhaka, Bangladesh (2013-16); and Senior Editor at PLOS Medicine (2006-13). She is an advisor to Global Health 50/50 and WomenLift Health, Chair of the governance council of the CMAJ, and co-founder of advocacy groups Canadian Women in Global Health and WGH Canada.
