USC Cancer Epidemiology Seminar Series
April 23 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Title Talk: “Genetic and metabolomic risk factors of prostate cancer and disease progression”
We are excited to announce this USC Cancer Epidemiology Seminar Series talk from Burcu Darst, PhD.
Dr. Burcu Darst is an Assistant Professor in the Public Health Sciences Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Washington. Dr. Darst’s research is focused on identifying and understanding genetic and multi-omic risk factors of prostate cancer in diverse populations. In this talk, Dr. Darst will discuss prior research that established notable germline genetic risk factors of prostate cancer development, then how genetic information could facilitate the identification of patients at risk of prostate cancer progression, particularly among patients monitored on active surveillance who were initially diagnosed with low-risk disease. Last, Dr. Darst will discuss research to identify metabolomic risk factors of prostate cancer and disease aggressiveness. Collectively, findings from this research could have implications for prostate cancer preventive, screening, and surveillance strategies.
