Overview

A native of Southern California, Dr. Cologne joined Keck Medicine of USC in 2012 and specializes in laparoscopic and minimally invasive procedures for a variety of diseases, including colon and rectal cancer, complex endoscopic polyp removal, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and the treatment and management of anorectal disorders such as hemorrhoids. He has performed more than 1,000 major colorectal procedures.

Dr. Cologne is board certified in general surgery and colorectal surgery. He has received numerous awards, including Pasadena, Los Angeles, and Castle Connolly Top Doctors on an annual basis, Compassionate Doctor, Patient’s Choice Award, and more.

Dr. Cologne believes every patient deserves an honest assessment and easy-to-understand plan for what can be complex or difficult colorectal problems.

Dr. Cologne completed his general surgery training in Chicago at Rush University and Cook County Medical Centers, followed by specialty training in Colon and Rectal Surgery. He serves as the Chair of the Department of Surgery Quality Committee and is the Physician Champion for the institution’s national quality improvement program. He has authored numerous book chapters and scientific manuscripts on colon and rectal as well as general surgery. He has research interests in surgical education, colon and rectal cancer, endoscopy, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease and anorectal disorders. He serves as a section editor for the Diseases of the Colon and Rectum Journal, where he is also the host of a podcast. He also is a previous Social Media Committee Chair for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), a past-president of the Southern California Chapter of the ASCRS, and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for numerous scientific journals.
