Overview

Alaina Vidmar, MD, is an Associate Professor in Pediatric Endocrinology, a Board-Certified Pediatric Obesity Medicine Specialist, and the Medical Director of the Obesity Medicine and Bariatric Surgery Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Vidmar received her medical degree and completed her residency in Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. She completed her fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. Vidmar’s lab is interested in four in components of the treatment of obesity in youth:

Chrononutrition: Dr. Vidmar is interested in investigating how pediatric chronobiological intersects with nutrition and obesity. She is gathering data to investigate how time-restricted eating effects cardiometabolic health and glycemic profiles in youth across the spectrum of beta-cell dysfunction.
Intersection between obesity pharmacotherapy and eating phenotyping: Dr. Vidmar’s lab aims to better understand how obesity pharmacotherapy treats and moderates the relationship between eating phenotypes and other clinical outcomes.
Wearable technology: Dr. Vidmar’s lab aims to utilize continuous glucose monitors as real-time biofeedback to augment engagement with lifestyle modification, obesity pharmacotherapy, and surgical interventions for obesity management in youth.
Integration of obesity pharmacotherapy and pre-and postoperative bariatric surgery algorithms: Dr. Vidmar’s lab is examining how to apply obesity pharmacotherapy algorithms safely and effectively to pediatric bariatric surgery pathways to augment clinical and psychosocial outcomes in the immediately and long term follow up periods.
