Overview

Dr. Hamilton is a cancer epidemiologist with an interest in etiology of cancer as well as in cancer outcomes research. She has conducted several studies of prostate cancer survivors using cases obtained from the Los Angeles County SEER registry. Specifically, she was the Los Angeles PI for the Prostate Cancer Outcomes study which followed men for 15 years after diagnosis and was also the site PI for the CEASAR cohort which obtained treatment and outcome data for men diagnosed in 2011. In addition, she is leading the Los Angeles component of the PC Concept study which is designed to assess treatment related effects from newer prostate cancer treatment methods including focal therapy and SBRT. She has played a major role in analyzing the prostate patterns of care data from a multi-site CDC study as well as from SEER Patterns of Care data on prostate cancer. She has been the recruitment core lead for the RESPOND Study (C. Haiman, PI) that has already recruited 12,500 African American men with prostate cancer nationwide, has obtained 7,000 saliva/germline DNA samples and 2,800 tumor tissue samples. In addition she has led and participated in studies of thyroid cancer, adolescent and young adult cancer, as well as breast and ovarian cancer. Currently she is also involved with studies regarding genetic testing for cancer patients and how this information is relayed to relatives.
